Dental Implants Are Cost Effective and Improve Quality of Life Says New Report

An International Report Ten Years in the Making Has Shown How Dental Implants Save Money and Can Improve a Patient’s Quality Of Life

Dentists will tell you (and anyone else who’ll listen) that dental implants are beneficial for your health. Not just your oral health either, but your general health too. If you don’t look after your oral health it can cause further problems throughout your body. For example, missing teeth can cause a misaligned bite which can:

  • make eating difficult
  • cause headaches
  • cause neck pain

Not only that but by having the dental implant procedure you are saving yourself from a lot of oral health issues such as loss of jawbone density, gum disease and further tooth loss.

Loss of jawbone density can be detrimental to your health—if it gets too severe it can also make getting dental implants difficult. In order for dental implant surgery to be successful, you need a healthy jawbone. Why? Because that’s where the dental implant is surgically inserted.

A worse can scenario could see you needing a bone graft if your jaw gets bad enough.

What the New Report is saying about Dental Implants…

The new report that stated dental implants was a cost-effective treatment took ten years and reviewed all studies published in English during that ten year period. The results were that, in the long run, implant-based solutions were usually either cost-saving or cost-effective in comparison to other tooth replacement options.

It was also reported that there was a direct link between improved overall oral health and quality of life as a result of the more permanent dental implant treatment.

Dental Implants and What’s involved…

A dental implant procedure takes three steps:

  1. the first visit is when the titanium implant is inserted into the jaw: this then fully integrates with the jaw over a number of months
  2. After the healing process, posts are then attached to these implants to provide the base for prosthetic teeth.
  3. The prosthetic teeth are attached to the posts. This creates a natural and functional dental restoration.

It is important to realize that poor oral health affects more than just your mouth…

At Elite Dental of Staten Island, we educate our patients on the links between oral health and overall health. For instance, did you know that gum disease has been linked to such health issues such as:

  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Cardiovascular disease/heart attacks

These are just some of the reasons looking after your oral health is important. Elite Dental of Staten Island is a leader in studying and educating the relationship between oral health and general health.
