How do dental implants work?

It is easy to feel self-conscious about gaps in your smile. Fortunately, we offer a long lasting solution to restore your smile. Find out more about how dental implants work.

If you have lost a tooth it is imperative you have it replaced. At the moment, there is no dental treatment as effective as a dental implant when it comes to replacing missing teeth. Not only does it restore the appearance of your smile, but also the function of it. At Elite Dental of Staten Island, we offer this comprehensive treatment to restore your whole tooth, including its root.

The Conventional Procedure

The implants are created from biocompatible materials and the procedure to have them placed is usually performed in two stages. The whole process can take 6 to 9 months. Firstly, the implant is surgically placed by your dentist. It is meant to mimic the root of your missing tooth and is positioned in that vacant space. Over the next few months, the implant is left to heal and become securely attached to your jaw bone. To protect this area while it heals, a temporary tooth replacement can be positioned.

Once the foundation for your new tooth has been completed, the final restorative step takes place when your crown is positioned onto the implant. Your dentist will create a crown that is perfectly matched with the rest of your smile in both colour and shape. You will now have a restored, natural looking and healthy smile.

The New and Innovative Dental Implant Procedure

At Elite Dental of Staten Island, we are proud to also offer our patients to benefit from an innovative technique. In some situations, we are able to integrate an implant in 4 weeks. We utilize the latest digital technologies, enabling us to offer an amazing solution with a “One and Done” concept.  With this procedure, the time of both surgery and the prosthetic phase is significantly reduced.  We can also mount a temporary crown on the same day as the actual implant is placed. This, combined with an accelerated post-op healing stage, means that you can achieve a restored smile much faster than traditionally.

Who Could Benefit from Dental Implants?

There is a common idea that tooth loss only affects older people but in reality, it can happen to anyone. Gum disease, accident or injury, smoking or dental decay are all possible reasons as to why you can lose a tooth. No matter your situation, dental implants are usually the most beneficial solution as they provide a permanent and aesthetically appealing tooth replacement.

At Elite Dental of Staten Island, we strongly recommend you always have missing teeth replaced. This is not only for cosmetic reasons but also for health reasons. The loss of a tooth can affect your jaw and the health of your remaining teeth.  It can also seriously impact your ability to chew and speak properly.
