Elite Dental of Staten Island offers a Free Consultation in May for Snoring and Sleep Apnea!

Elite Dental of Staten Island is pleased to announce the recent establishment of the Staten Island Snoring & Sleep Apnea Dental Treatment Center to treat individuals with snoring and sleep apnea, of which it is estimated that 20 million Americans suffer.

During the month of May Dr Steven Acker and his staff will provide a free snoring and sleep apnea consultation for individuals.

“Eighty-Seven million people in America snore and a percentage of snorers also suffer from a condition known as obstructive sleep apnea. It’s a quality of life problem for not only the individuals afflicted with it but the loved ones suffering right along with them, battling for an uninterrupted restful night sleep. With the high quality, intraoral appliances available for sleep apnea patients, effective treatment is available, said Dr Steven Acker, principal of Elite Dental of Staten Island.

The Staten Island Snoring & Sleep Apnea Treatment Center will be offering its patient’s Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT), including the Lamberg Sleep Well Appliance, an intraoral appliance worn during sleep that has been proven to be effective in the alleviation of snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. This device is a more comfortable oral appliance than most on the market. Each device is custom made to ensure a perfect fit and maximum comfort.

“Sleep apnea can be addressed so that quality of life issues are resolved. Some other associated health problems such as depression, memory loss, high blood pressure, strokes, and fatigue are often minimized or eliminated by using oral appliance therapy. These types of health issues tend to result from having sleep apnea,” Dr Acker continued.

Snoring and apnea occur when the soft tissue structures of the upper airway collapse onto themselves. The snoring sound is caused by the vibration of these tissues and the complete closure of the airway is an apnea event. Closure of the airway can occur for as many as 300 episodes a night depriving the body and brain of vital oxygen. Some characteristics that can cause apnea are a narrow jaw, large tongue, small nasal valves, enlarged adenoids, and enlarged tonsils for example. Apnea can also be caused by allergies, over-consumption of alcohol, sedatives, and smoking. Decreased lung capacity can also cause apnea, a common side effect of obesity.
