Is Invisalign Right For You?

Is Invisalign Right For You?

You may have heard of Invisalign, an orthodontic treatment that is a great alternative to traditional braces. The smile straightening treatment is highly effective for many cases of misaligned teeth and is quite different from traditional braces. Read on to find out if Invisalign treatment might be the right choice for you!

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign ‘braces’ are clear aligners that look quite similar to splints or mouth-guards. They are custom made for each individual and are removable, unlike fixed braces.

Invisalign aligners are sometimes referred to as ‘invisible braces’ and fit snugly over your teeth. They are barely noticeable to others which is the main reason that most patients state when choosing to opt for Invisalign over metal braces.

In order to shift your teeth into the desired position, you will receive a new set of aligners every fortnight to gradually align your smile.

Can Invisalign fix your smile?

Many different types of smiles can be straightened using the Invisalign treatment, including those with crossbites, overcrowding, gaps in the teeth, and underbites.

Invisalign is not suitable for children but can be used for teens and adults of all ages. In order to find out if your teeth can be aligned using Invisalign, or if another orthodontic treatment might be more suited for you, it’s always best to come and see us for a consultation to establish a personalized treatment plan.

Invisalign Compared to Traditional Braces

There are some huge differences between Invisalign and traditional, fixed braces. Some of which are listed below:

Removable: Invisalign aligners can be easily removed when you eat, brush and floss – the aligners themselves can also be thoroughly cleaned. This difference allows for much better oral hygiene than with traditional braces which can often be tricky to clean around.

Discreet: The main and most obvious difference is that Invisalign is much more discreet and less noticeable than metal braces.

Comfortable: Whilst Invisalign aligners will take a bit of getting used to, they are often reported as being comfortable to wear thanks to their custom fit and use of smooth materials. Traditional braces can be harsher on the mouth due to the metal wires and brackets.

Cost: Cost varies depending on the patient’s individual needs for both traditional braces and Invisalign. Although Invisalign tends to be more expensive than traditional braces, they do often take less time.

Treatment Time: Another notable difference is that Invisalign is often quicker to achieve beautiful smiles than fixed braces but this, of course, depends on each individual case. Invisalign wearers typically finish treatment within 6-18 months whereas traditional braces are usually worn for 18-24 months on average.
