News Update From Elite Dental – The Bale/Doneen Method

Dr Acker, the principal dentist at Elite Dental of Staten Island, will be furthering his education this month in understanding the link between oral health and total body wellness.

As an Oral Systemic Health Professional and a leader in practising, studying, and educating the impact your oral health can have on your overall health, Dr Steve Acker has elected to continue his education by attending Bale/Doneen Preceptorship courses. The Bale/Doneen Method was co-founded by Bradley Bale, MD and Amy Doneen, DNP, ARNP, for the prevention of heart attacks, ischemic strokes and diabetes.

“Beat The Heart Attack Gene” By Bradley Bale, MD and Amy Doneen, DNP, ARNP

“Beat The Heart Attack Gene” by Bale and Doneen goes beyond the common known causes of heart conditions such as cholesterol, and blood pressure.

While discussing the book with Barbara Dooley, Amy Doneen stated that “cholesterol and blood pressure management are important, but they are one piece of a much bigger picture.”  The authors instead aim to focus the general public on the importance of considering the genetic links and other less publicized factors that contribute to the development of heart disease.

The book goes on to discuss conditions such as insulin resistance, which is thought to be the cause of about 75% of heart attacks and yet is a condition that is not commonly known and very simply tested. Other root causes of heart conditions are also psycho-social factors and genetically driven lipid abnormalities that cause vascular inflammation.

What does this have to do with your oral health?

As Doneen converses during her interview with Barbara Dooley, “other root causes that are not spoken about enough are things like periodontal disease. You can get tested for bacteria that hide within our gum lines that can create vascular inflammation.” In addition to periodontal disease, the link between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and vascular inflammation is discussed.

Going beyond simply understanding your oral health, Dr Steve Acker hopes that by furthering his education on understanding the impact oral conditions such as periodontal disease and sleep apnea can have on conditions such as heart disease, he can work towards the prevention of heart attacks, ischemic strokes and diabetes for patients.

The Bale/Doneen Method

“The Bale/Doneen Method is designed to improve and save lives and is being integrated into practice by medical providers on a global basis.”

There are six basic elements to the Bale/Doneen Method:

Education of the patient

Disease evaluation

Fire/Inflammation

Root causes of the disease

Optimal goals to minimize risk

Genetics

The course will go on to discuss that although cardiologists and heart surgeons across the country have successfully lowered the rate of death from heart attacks, the sheer number of heart attacks and strokes has not been reduced. The Bale/Doneen Method provides optimal care which addresses the important, underlying biological issues of atherosclerosis (a disease where plaque has built up inside the arteries).
