CariFree can help refine your oral health regime!

CariFree is an advanced dental tool used to identify signals of harmful bacteria and decay in the mouth!

Here at Elite Dental of Staten Island, we are dedicated to a preventative approach to dentistry that assists in reducing the amount of dental decay that affects the mouth. Preventative dentistry is the best way to prevent dental disease before it arises and this is the only sure-fire way we can truly manage the health of your teeth. The CariFree system is used to measure the intensity of harmful plaque and bacteria that infiltrate the teeth, mouth and gums. Here at Elite Dental of Staten Island we are passionate about dental health and preserving your natural teeth.

The CariFree System will enable you to enjoy a healthier mouth for longer

The CariFree system combines scientific knowledge and dental technology to detect the presence of bacteria in the mouth. The procedure itself involves a one minute test which will determine if you are at low, medium or high risk of cavities and serious tooth decay in the future. It is recommended that you visit Dr Steve Acker at Elite Dental of Staten Island at least twice a year. Once a year (or every second appointment) it is also suggested that you receive a CariFree examination so that we can map your ongoing oral health and catch any serious problems early. By keeping on top of your dental health the risk of further complications such as extraction is much less likely which means you can enjoy your natural bite for longer.

CariFree helps to keep the most dangerous bacteria in your mouth at bay

We have millions of bacteria on our teeth and it may surprise you to know that not all of them are harmful to our smile and general health. One of the most dangerous bacteria types is streptococcus mutants which are cavity-causing bacteria in the teeth. These are some of the most dangerous bacteria because their harmful secretions are aggravated or encouraged by sugar intake. Unfortunately, there is no ‘quick cure’ or long-term cure for strepoccocus as it is an infectious piece of marble that must be chipped away at gradually through the use of a strict and diligent dental hygiene regime. This harmful bacteria can result in painful cavities, tooth decay and other species of bacteria which can cause the same havoc in the mouth.

How can I improve the number of bacteria in my mouth?

Apart from receiving the CariFree test at least once a year, it is also recommended that you visit your dentist at least twice a year for a general check-up and quality clean. This is a vital ingredient to a healthy mouth as without a professional clean solidified tartar can infect the teeth and cause deep cavities in the teeth. You will also need to dedicate yourself to a strict dental hygiene regime which will involve brushing your teeth twice per day and flossing before bed. You may also wish to invest in a dental mouthwash such as an antiseptic mouthwash or a whitening and anti-plaque mouthwash. Mouthwashes have been proven to decrease the amount of plaque significantly.
