How to keep your smile bright after whitening

If you have had a teeth whitening treatment, you’ll know that the results are very effective.

Once the treatment is complete, it’s wonderful to see a stain-free smile that looks healthy and bright. While the results of a whitening treatment are long-lasting, it’s important to note that they are not permeant.

But did you know that there are ways to maintain your beautiful, white smile for longer? Read on to discover our top tips for keeping your smile looking great for as long as possible after your whitening treatment …

Avoid certain foods and drinks

It’s a good idea to avoid foods and drinks that are likely to stain and discolor your teeth in order to enjoy the results of your whitening treatment for longer. Some foods to avoid include berries, ketchup, soy sauce and hard candies. When it comes to stain-causing beverages, try and limit your intake of coffee, tea, red wine, sports drinks, and soda. It can be helpful to use a straw when drinking these kinds of beverages, as this tends to keep the pigment away from your teeth.

Quit smoking

Tobacco is a major culprit when it comes to discoloration, so we highly recommend that you don’t smoke. Not only is the habit detrimental to your overall health, but it can cause your teeth to stain. Plus, smoking tends to progress the development of gum disease and can also cause bad breath.

Maintain good oral hygiene

It’s important that you stick to good oral hygiene habits if you want to keep your teeth free from stains. Brush your teeth after meals, and rinse your mouth out with water if you drink anything that could cause discoloration, like coffee or red wine, for example. Besides the cosmetic benefits of keeping your teeth clean, good oral habits will also help to reduce the risk of issues like gum disease and tooth decay.

As well as committing to a healthy routine, it’s also essential that you come in for regular dental check-ups. We’ll ensure that your teeth stay clean, which can go a long way in maintaining a bright smile. We’ll also let you know how often you should consider a touch-up whitening treatment.
